Christian Medical College Ludhiana (CMCL) is one of the oldest and best-known centers of medical education in the country. We have a great legacy of compassionate patient care going hand in hand with academic excellence which has been passed on to us through many stalwarts who have come before us. CMCL has a great legacy of academic excellence and cutting-edge research. From our early years, the standard of research material was always on par with the rest of the world. Even today, we continue to be considered a center of high quality research with large grants from the Indian Council of Medical Research, Department of Biotechnology, National Institute of Health, USA and National Health and Medical Research Council, Australia. Beginning a medical journal is a logical next step to cement our credentials as an institute of academic excellence.

Our vision and mission is to build a distinguished scientific society of CMCL that will impact healthcare in the region and internationally. We exist to be a source of dissemination of cutting-edge, practical and relevant research, and practices from a distinguished scientific society of CMCL, its alumni and the mission hospitals it serves, by publishing high-quality peer-reviewed articles and disseminate information and evidence to health professionals in resource-poor settings.

The first issue focuses on the infections including the importance of antibiotic stewardship program. In India, there is a rampant use of antibiotics which leads to antibiotic resistance. The article by Brar et al., discusses the benefits of antibiotic stewardship program. The issue also includes interesting papers on Shigella, Neurocysticercosis, oral tuberculosis, diagnostic reliability of micronucleus in oral malignant lesions, and anthracycline-induced sub-clinical cardiac toxicity. Dr Alexander in the mission hospital section discusses about the challenges in establishing healthcare facilities based on local needs in remote areas. The rising cardiovascular risk factors among early teens are highlighted in the paper by Clarence et al.

I sincerely thank Dr. Abraham G Thomas, Director CMCL and Dr. SM Bhatti, Principal CMC for their encouragement given to us to start the Journal. I also express my gratitude to the editorial board members for their immense contribution. I also acknowledge Dr Vinay Wilson for designing the Journal logo. We also thank the Medknow team for their guidance and help. My best wishes for CHRISMED Journal of Health and Research to be an excellent Journal in Health research.
